Biography

Prof. Gibes teaches community dental public health to dental hygiene students and coordinates student community-based service-learning experiences.  She works extensively with Detroit Mercy’s Institute for Leadership and Service to promote interdisciplinary community-based collaborations.  As Degree Completion Coordinator, Gibes works with practicing dental hygienists who are completing studies for their Baccalaureate Degree. Additional responsibilities include recruiting for the dental hygiene program and academic advising for pre-dental hygiene and dental hygiene students. She has received teaching awards and is interested in educational research. Gibes received her Certificate in Dental Hygiene from the University of Detroit, a B.S. degree in Dental Hygiene and a M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction from University of Detroit Mercy.  She joined the university in 1999.
